Manga Museum Special Exhibition: “Mutsu A-ko × Girls’ Magazine Supplementary Booklet Exhibition ~ DOKIDOKI Otome Check ・ World! ~” will be held!

A special exhibition of the famed Kitakyushu resident comics artist Mutsu A-ko, who sparked the otome (girlhood) check boom which came to symbolize the era with RIBON (Shueisha) - a popular girls’ magazine during the 1970s and 1980s, will be held.

You will be able to trace the transition through her color and monochrome original art pieces (deposited collection of the museum), which include Mutsu’s first-ever produced artworks; and valued appendix sections in teen magazines, which are part of the deposited collection of Yayoi Museum.

Add to that, another well-known comics artist who also resides in the city - Maekawa Ryo, who is writing an ongoing series “Animal Yokocho”, a comic cartoon on RIBON, and Hagiiwa Mutsumi, who has been publishing heartwarming pieces such as “Ginyobi no otogibanashi”, will also be introduced.

Please come along and enjoy the works of the talented artists that are scheduled to be showcased!
