What to do in the event of a ballistic missile launch

<Cabinet Secretariat> What to do in the event of a ballistic missile launch

  • Ballistic missiles land in an extremely short time frame upon its launch.

  • In the event that a missile is launched at Japan, the Nationwide Instant Alert System (also known as J-Alert) will be utilized where special sirens and messages will be sent through the Disaster Management Radio Communication System, and emergency announcements will be made through Emergency Flash Mail.

  • When the alert message is released, immediately take the following action:

    【If you are outside】

  • Evacuate to the sturdiest building or underground area you can find near you.

  • If there are no suitable buildings nearby, either hide under a shelter or lie on the ground face down to protect your head.

    【If you are inside】

  • Keep away from the windows as much as you can and if possible, move to a room with no windows.
~ Please follow the instructions given by the administration and stay calm ~
