A City for Manufacturing Products

Kitakyushu has a magnificent heritage of techniques and human resources which have been inherited over the hundred years of its history as a "manufacturing city" since the founding of the government-managed Yahata Steelworks.
Furthermore, the City has traffic and distribution bases sufficient to support industries, with facilities including Kitakyushu Airport and Hibikinada Deep Water Port and Harbor (Hibiki Container Terminal), as well as an intellectual base, comprising such institutions as Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, that is capable of serving as the brain for industries. In addition, corporations related to environmental business, semiconductors and automobiles have increasingly gathered here, while more enterprises within Kitakyushu are penetrating into areas of growth, awakening expectations of this city's advance toward becoming a 'New manufacturing city.'

Congregated automobile industries

Since new and powerful manufacturing plants of major automobile manufacturers are located around this city, automobile parts manufacturers are increasingly being established here. As a result, a new industrial group is forming in this area. Since the automobile industry is considered to further extend on a global scale and to be highly sophisticated in the future, it is expected that the automobile technologies will be advanced through the cooperation of manufacturing companies in Kitakyushu and that new enterprises will open branches in this city.

Newly gathered corporations dealing with semiconductors

Kitakyushu, located on the island of Kyushu, is one of the areas with the largest number of semiconductor firms in Japan. Thus, Kyushu is called 'Silicon Island.' Of the many semiconductor-related companies in the Kyushu region, 10% are located in Kitakyushu. Moreover, semiconductor designing corporations have been established in this city one after another; thus many enterprises have gathered in and around the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park. With the SoC Design Center of the Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology (FAIS) as the central core, we are supporting enterprises relating to semiconductors and are providing practical training toward constructing a comprehensive base for the semiconductor industry.

Congregated industries relating to next generation robots

Several world famous robot manufacturers reside in Kitakyushu. Technological development and product commercialization are thus actively under way, while robot venture companies release new types of robots one after another. Moreover, with Kitakyushu Science and Research Park as a focal point, numerous universities and research institutes engaging in research and development of robot-related technologies are gathering in Kitakyushu.
With the Robotics Development Support Department of Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology (FAIS) as a leading force, Kitakyushu Robot Forum・was established as a principal organization for promoting the robot industry. This organization is advancing the development, demonstration and commercialization of robots by encouraging cooperation among business, academic and governmental circles through the Robotics Industry Development Council and other activities.
