How to read your monthly utility bills

Do you understand the monthly statement you receive for your utilities? Maybe some people find a page full of Japanese characters a little daunting? This issue of Himawari will provide tips to help everyone read and understand their monthly utility bills.

The above explanation is based on an electricity bill, however, for gas and water bills much of the same vocabulary is used. There are a number of payment methods, including paying cash the convenience store (some convenience stores do not offer these services), paying at the bank with cash and direct debit from a nominated bank account. For those who lead busy lives or are prone to forgetting the deadline for payment on bills, the direct debit service is especially convenient.
